Project Overview

The homeowners at Smokehouse Crescent reached out with a clear goal: they wanted a complete front and backyard transformation that would feel structured, low-maintenance, and alive. The challenge? The yard was uneven, overgrown in places, and had poor drainage. They needed a cohesive plan, one that tackled function and aesthetics at the same time.

Project Story

We began with a full site prep, removing debris, weeding the beds, reshaping the lawn areas, and clearing out space for new features. One of the biggest early challenges was grading. The yard had settled unevenly over the years, making water retention a real issue, especially near the rear garden. We reshaped the soil using 8 yards of sandy lawn blend, chosen specifically for its drainage benefits and suitability for sod and overseeding.

For the front garden, we carved out new garden beds, amended them with fish mulch, and carefully planted shrubs to fill out the space without overwhelming it. Around one feature tree, we installed a custom block garden ring, which helped define the area while improving drainage and root protection.

Another key area was the front lawn strip, which the homeowners wanted to convert into something more low-maintenance. We replaced the patchy grass with river rocks and added decorative boulders to create texture and contrast, a subtle, modern touch that tied into the rest of the landscape.
In the backyard, we tackled a small, awkward space by the patio that often collected water and gravel runoff. We stripped it back, installed landscape felt, and filled it with river rock, creating a simple but effective solution for water diversion that also looked great.

Everything was finished with 650 square feet of premium West Coast sod, which took quickly thanks to proper soil prep and consistent watering. Despite the initial grading issues and tight layout, we turned the space into a clean, modern yard with strong lines, lush textures, and minimal upkeep.
